Smith and Coil Jewelry

Jewelry should mean something.

Growing up in my family’s jewelry store, I heard generations of stories about customers and the jewelry they purchased with us. But the stories I heard weren’t about the jewelry, they were about love, family, grief, and community.  I don’t remember a single specific piece of jewelry purchased by the customers in these stories, because the stories weren’t about the purchase made; they were about the life that purchase commemorated. Growing up on these stories taught me that the difference between a forgettable piece that will eventually lay forgotten in a jewelry box and an heirloom was the story the piece evoked. I took that lesson to heart.

My work is wearable art, grounded in human connection and history. My jewelry is a bridge between you and the stories that evoke the courage, hope, and whimsy that makes life meaningful. Each piece is handcrafted by me, and nearly every one is completely unique. I predominately work in Argentium silver, and I use genuine gemstones and fossils in my work. I work with simple tools that belonged to my dad, my grandfather, and my great-grandfather before me.
