Pearl Brooch

Before our clothes came with buttons and zippers, there was the brooch.

People have been using brooches to fasten their clothing since the Bronze Age. At first, that was their primary purpose. They were practical. By the Iron Age, brooches were more than just practical, they were developing into works of art. Decorated with enamel, coral, and intricate metal work, archeologists have even found examples of them in Celtic graves dating as far back as 400 BC.

Over the centuries, brooches became symbols of religion, wealth, and status. In many ways, we still use them for this today. Think about badges, lapel pins, and military insignia denoting rank and accomplishments.

This brooch is made by hand from Argentium silver with a coin pearl and black pearl accent, using techniques that connect it to a tradition that's been evolving for thousands of years.
